About us
I'm a full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT1155) abiding by their code of practice
and attended four years of annual assessment and achieved certification through the
British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers gaining both a first and second.
I've been offering 121 home sessions and running dog training classes in
Mansfield and Nottingham for over 15 years.
I have run up to seven classes a week over the years though now generally only three as 121 Home Visits take up most of my time.
Growing up surrounded by dogs, including GSDs, Dachsunds and Mixed breed rescues, I realise now how much I'd learned from them and wish I'd known then what I know now. How different things could have been. Hindsight! I take dogs to work with me most days in other work related areas of my life, like many of us, I can't imagine not living with at least one dog in the house.
We recently lived with up to 5 dogs up until 2024 when age and disease took them. Always one of the hardest days of an owners life.
We now live with a Standard Schnauzer we came across having spent the first 7 months of his life learning that humans are not to be trusted. His intolerance of people is breathtaking. He has at least learned to trust three people (one with reservations), just another 8 billion to go :(
He is a wonderful dog.
My view of dog training has changed over the years.
I have experienced first hand the results of trainers with "loads of experience" with little or low quality knowledge
and I wonder just how many dogs have paid a high price for that 'experience'.
Experience is great, but without up to date, relevant and respected education
it is nothing more than trial and error.
My main interest is helping owners understand their dogs behavioural problems particularly dog 'reactivity'
I have regularly attended seminars/lectures and as a requirement of being a member of the APDT maintain a minimum number of hours of CPD an annually.
